Travel, as we know it, is changing because of COVID19. This is an unprecedented time for the travel industry with almost all travel destinations adhering to travel alerts or travel bans. Many have had to reevaluate and reorganize travel plans for the year and, as of this post, it is only the first quarter of 2020!. This is true for all world travelers whether they be traveling for business or pleasure. Because of COVID19, travel has been almost at a halt as everywhere around the world is under “stay home” orders, in “social distancing”, “isolation” or “quarantine”.

So, what can we do in the meantime while we are all in the luxury of our homes and in the midst of the much-needed family time with the ones we love? As far as travel is concerned, all is not lost! We just have to change our mindset and find ways to use this time that many of us think we don’t have in the hustle and bustle of our normal every day lives. 1. Make a Travel Wish List

With so much unusual time on our hands, have yourself some fun and make a TRAVEL WISH LIST. This is definitely one way to get our minds off the stress and anxiety we are all facing with at the moment. It’s a “wish list” so dream away and list down all the places you have ever wondered about that seem so interesting to you. Don’t hold back! Take your time and keep adding to your list.

2. Take Virtual Tours

After you are satisfied with your Travel Wish List, each day take at least one virtual tour of a place on your list. For instance, if Rome is on your list and you would like to check out the museums at the Vatican, you can actually google it. I did and found this link:

3. Find Recipes and Try ‘Em Out

One of the best things about traveling around the world is that you get to experience the cuisine of the different countries that you visit. Well, for now you can go online to find recipes and try ’em out! You don’t have to be a chef in the kitchen because that’s the fun part, and what can make it even better is that you can involve other family members to help out. Choose a destination and then choose a recipe and cook away.

4. Start Shopping for the Little Things

When you have finally submerged yourself in your little “Travel Wish List” activities, you can start shopping for the little things online. Perhaps you or a companion need some new carry on bags? Or maybe you have always wanted to invest in a luggage scale? Now, can be the best time to do so. Here are some other travel goodies that you can start shopping for: travel pillows, airplane tray covers, travel cubes, compression socks, travel tags, travel disinfectant or just anything travel-related.

5. Start an Online Business

While you are not clocking in and clocking out, one thing you can look into is starting an online business. My recommendation is affiliate marketing specifically Wealthy Affiliate. And now, that I have more time on my hands because of “stay home” orders, I have more time to invest in it. The best thing is that anyone can do it! PLUS, you can start it for free…then when you want to invest more into your business you have that option.

Booking Travel, Lessons Learned In the Midst of COVID19

Here we are in the midst of the COVID19 outbreak. Here we are dealing with travel bans and travel alerts and having to go through thermal scanners before boarding a plane. Many people scrambling to change or cancel their travel reservations while some airlines take it upon themselves to cancel flights altogether. “Self-quarantine” and “social distancing” have become a household words.

It is a discouraging time for those who have looked forward to taking that long-awaited cruise. Even traveling by bus, train or car doesn’t seem like such a great idea right about now.

Who would have thought that this would be the case even just months ago when vacations or business travels were planned and booked? Definitely a first for the entire modern world, a world that aspires to travel more and more.

Yet, with all the chaos and uncertainty that we all face at this moment. This is a time when travelers should take time out and reevaluate the ways of Booking Travel, Lessons Learned In the Midst of COVID19.

Online Travel Agencies and Websites

 

I have always been an advocate of online travel agencies and websites. I am talking about sites such as booking.com, kiwi.com and studentuniverse.com . I’ve used them a few times to know that they can be a wonderful resource. After all, they do save you some time and money compared to other companies. However, with some of the stories I have heard about the challenges of either making changes to reservations or canceling reservations especially with the COVID19 situation, it appears that these online travel agencies and websites are not as flexible as others. I will still use them because of the deals they offer, but at this time of travel tribulations, they might not be the most ideal when booking travel.

Airline or Travel Company Websites

Another way to book travel is by going directly to the airline, cruise, train or bus company websites. I have also used these sites to book travel. Here you can also find some special deals and save on the booking and baggage fees that may be assessed when booking with online travel agencies and sites like booking.com, kiwi.com or studentuniverse.com. The one drawback when booking directly through airline or travel company websites is that you may be only limited to the one travel company. This means that if you choose to use United Airlines, for example, you are normally limited to using them for your travel from beginning to end which could cost a lot more than what you pay through other booking sites. The one advantage to booking with these companies, is that changes and cancellations in times of distress, like the one we are experiencing with COVID19, are easier to make.

then you will know that I have personal travel plans for the year. So, way before the whole COVID19 became worldwide hysteria, I was looking into booking my travels with a travel agency. The main reason I was looking into booking with a travel agency is because I wanted to assure, that should travel bans or travel alerts were to ensue especially with my travel destinations, that I would be able to reasonably get refunded or be able to change any booking reservations I would have.

As I called one agency to check on my dates of travel, the one thing that I learned was that booking through a travel agency might limit the number of airlines to choose from. This is because travel agencies may have contracts with certain airlines that they book with. So, this means that if I had a particular airline that I preferred I might not be able to book with them. This also means that I would pay higher prices compared to booking with an online travel website or with the travel company directly. Also, of course, there is a fee for booking a travel agency which is not a concern with me especially during this time of COVID19.

The Choice is Yours

When making travel arrangements it is great to know that there are so many options available. The choice is yours. Whether you are booking travel through online travel agencies, directly through travel airlines and companies or through a travel agent, do what is right for your needs.

HAND SANITIZERS: Although washing your hands properly with soap and water is one of the most effective ways to spread the virus, hand sanitizers can be used if there is no access to soap and water. According to prevention.com, hand sanitizers must be used properly as well. This means covering your hands in hand sanitizer and rubbing them until completely dry which usually takes about 20 seconds. Also, hand sanitizers which consist of 60% or more alcohol are the most effective.

FACE MASKS: To wear or not to wear face masks? That is the question. My answer: do what makes you happy. So, if you feel protected with face masks, then you’re going to do it. According to prevention.com, “The CDC doesn’t currently recommend that the general public wear face masks to prevent viral infections. However, the organization says that people who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 (or are being evaluated for infection) should wear a mask when they’re in the same room as other people.”

DISINFECTING WIPES: Medical grade disinfecting wipes such as SONO can also help prevent the spread of the virus. However, all brands of disinfecting wipes such as Clorox and Lysol must be used properly as well. According to sonowipes.com using disinfecting wipes properly include:

  • Wipe the surface until it is visibly wet with the wipe solution.
  • Maintain a wet surface for at least 10 minutes, using multiple wipes if needed.
  • Allow to air dry.

RUBBING ALCOHOL Another prevention tool is to rub things clean with rubbing alcohol or use alcohol wipes like the ones you find in first aid kits.

Other Items

There are other items that you can keep in your home to help keep you healthy.

ECHINACEA: According to healthline.com, “Echinacea is a group of flowering plants used as a popular herbal remedy. They’re linked to many health benefits, such as reduced inflammation, improved immunity and lower blood sugar levels.” I, personally, have tried echinacea and I found that it works well for me. According to webmd.com, “Echinacea is widely used to fight infections, especially the common cold, and the flu. Some people take echinacea at the first sign of a cold, hoping they will be able to keep the cold from developing. Other people take echinacea after cold of flu-like symptoms have started, hoping they can make symptoms less severe or resolve quicker.”

AIRBORNE: Airborne is a dietary supplement that helps improves the immune function and helps with the prevention of the common cold. I have used Airborne prior to traveling to prevent acquiring sicknesses from being around so many people in airports and on the airplane.

EMERGEN-C: According to healthline.com, “Emergen-C is a nutritional supplement that contains vitamin C and other nutrients designed to boost your immune system and increase energy. Emergen-C is a powdered drink mix that contains vitamin C, several B vitamins and other nutrients to support energy levels and immune function.” I have also tried Emergen-C whenever I feel a cold or flu coming.

Traveling or Not

Whether traveling or not, we are all feeling the effects of COVID19. As citizens of the world, we must all stay cool and collected in these uneasy times. We must do whatever we can on our part to help prevent the spread of COVID19 and other viruses.

  • Wash your hands properly.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • For the time being, wear masks if you are sick.
  • Cover your mouth and nose when you cough and sneeze and dispose of all used tissues right away.
  • Refrain from touching your face.
  • Keep clear, as much as you can, from being around crowds and especially from people who are sick.

It also helps to stay positive and to keep stress free. A little prayer or meditation and faith will go a long way, too.

I know it can all sound repetitious and agonizing by now, but it is urgent that we all do what is necessary to keep the virus from spreading. Necessities for doing so might be scarce right now but we must utilize all that we can and that includes Fighting the Virus – Order Online.

 

Traveling Today, Fighting the Virus

Here we are in the year 2020 and I have many travel plans on my agenda for the year mainly in part to special occasions that are taking place for my family. One travel will take me back to Okinawa, Japan during the summer to witness the birth of my first grandchild. While the other, will take me to California in the fall to witness my eldest daughter marry the man of her dreams. Then, almost soon after the wedding I will be traveling to Okinawa once again to help care for the grand baby while mommy travels stateside for training.

Not only am I the only one traveling for these occasions but so are other family members and friends who will come from different areas around the states including Hawaii, Oregon, Texas, South Carolina, and Massachusetts while some of us will be traveling all the way from the island of Guam via Japan. Many of us, more than likely will be flying to our destinations.

But then here we are in the year 2020 in the midst of a corona virus or COVID19 outbreak which at this moment is on the verge of possibly becoming a pandemic. So, “Traveling Today, Fighting the Virus” is going to be a challenge for all world travelers in the months ahead.

Keep Healthy

First and foremost and even before traveling, keep healthy. Keep healthy by practicing good hygiene ALWAYS. You can also keep healthy by eating right and staying active. Here are some ways to help keep healthy.

  • WASH YOUR HANDS – proper hand washing requires washing with soap and water for a few minutes
  • STAY HYDRATED – drinks lots of fluids such as water and juice to keep the body hydrated
  • EAT HEALTHY – keep your meals balanced and nutritious and be sure to include lots of vegetables and fruits
  • SLEEP – get at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night
  • EXERCISE – be physically active and get your heart pumping for at least 20-30 minutes a day
  • LIMIT CONTACT WITH SICK PEOPLE – as much as you can help it, stay clear from people who are coughing and sneezing
  • PRACTICE PROPER COUGHING AND SNEEZING ETIQUETTE – if you are sick, cough and sneeze into tissues and properly dispose of them right away into the trash then wash your hands

While traveling especially during times of any outbreak, you want to keep healthy. Face it, if you travel while sick, people might tend to stare and wonder of you are subjecting them to a virus.

Ways to Prevent Viruses

According to Wikipedia,

“A virus is a small infectious agent that replicates only inside the living cells of an organism. Viruses can infect all types of life forms, from animals and plants to microorganisms, including bacteria and archaea.”

The key word to this definition is “infectious”. The challenge that we are seeing today with the COVID19 is not only that it is infectious but that there is no known antiviral treatment for it and no vaccine to prevent it. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has a lot of updated information on COVID19.

As far as keeping the spread of the virus minimal, prevention is vital. Here are some “Ways to Prevent Viruses” taken from the CDC website:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a face mask.
    • CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a face mask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.
    • Face masks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of face masks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
    • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

As you can see, keeping healthy has so much to do with the ways to prevent viruses.

Pouring a Cup of Coffee – My Way

To the average Joe, pouring a cup of Joe might seem trivial and insignificant. However, to those of us who can’t seem to function without our preferred morning beverage, pouring a proper cup can sometimes make or break our day. There is something so extremely satisfying about the first sip of coffee on any given morning.

When it comes to coffee, there are so many ways you can have it. Some like it strong, some don’t. Some drink it black or with milk while others have with cream and sugar. Then, there are cappuccinos, lattes, macchiatos, americanos, espressos. All coffee in different ways.

It’s All Good

As a self-proclaimed coffee lover, let me just say that coffee in any way can be perfect. When you have a relationship with coffee, it’s all good. I am not talking about sub par coffee where the coffee itself wasn’t properly made, and I have tried sub par coffee. I am talking about how to take your coffee and taking it to another level.

Here are some regular ways to take a plain ole cuppa Java made from a coffee maker:

  • COFFEE WITH MILK
  • COFFEE WITH CREAM
  • COFFEE WITH MILK AND SUGAR
  • COFFEE WITH CREAM(ER) AND SUGAR

Over the years I have tried them all. My absolute favorite way is coffee with cream and sugar. So, this is how I will share “Pouring a Cup of Coffee – My Way” .

Creamer

According to INFOMORY.COM, “Coffee creamers are milk-based products added to coffee to modify its flavor. For some people, a creamer would mean putting on standard cream to coffee. Cream refers to the part of milk which contains the most butterfat. But for others, what they know as coffee creamer is basic milk.”Coffee Mate French VanillaInternational Delight Caramel Macchiato

For the purpose of this post, I will distinguish creamer separate from milk. With that said, there are so many different coffee creamers that are advertised nowadays. They come in powder or liquid form. Some of the more popular brands include Bailey’s, Nestle (Carnation) Coffee Mate, and International Delight. Then you have the newer brands like Dunkin Doughnuts and Starbucks.

Creamer makes a cup of coffee creamy and silky. It softens the bitterness of the coffee taste. Creamer also lightens the color of the coffee and gives it a new look. It is like a highlighter for coffee and it enhances the coffee flavor.

Sugar

Sugar, nothing else. Not Splenda. Not Equal. Not Sweet N Low. Not NutraSweet.

Sugar is a natural sweetener. It is also known as sucrose and it is extracted from sugar cane or sugar beet.

Some interesting sugar facts according to www.makingsenseofsugar.com are:

1) Sugar is thought to have been first used over 5,000 years ago in the Polynesian Islands.

2) The body breaks down all sugars and starches to glucose. The brain requires around 130g of glucose each day to cover basic energy needs.

Cream and Sugar

Now, here is where the coffee magic happens. Adding cream and sugar to coffee brings it to a whole other level. For me, adding cream and sugar to coffee, is euphoric and it gives me such an amazing feeling to start off my day. Depending on the flavor of the coffee creamer you choose, you can feel almost totally transported to another place. Cream and sugar to coffee is like what jelly is to peanut butter. It’s a perfect combination.

My Way

After brewing an amazing pot of coffee in my Mr. Coffee Coffee Maker, I usually pour 2-16 oz Copco Acadia Travel Mugs with our glorious morning beverage. CopCo Travel Mug Although I regularly experiment with different coffee ground flavors, I will normally mix our cups almost exactly every time. I call it coffee “My Way” and this is how it is done.

Before actually even pouring the coffee into the mugs, add 1 teaspoon of sugar and 4 teaspoons of coffee creamer. My personal favorite creamer flavor is hazelnut but I am always open to trying other flavors.

1 teaspoon – SUGAR

4 teaspoons – CREAMER

16 ounces – COFFEE

POUR

STIR

How to Make Coffee in a Coffee Maker-So Easy, So Good

Morning coffee is definitely a must for me and my husband. Our morning just isn’t complete without a great cup of hot coffee. We, just like everyone else in the world, enjoy “coffee shop coffee” and the ambiance of the coffee shop atmosphere, however, many, many mornings I make coffee at home. It saves us time and money and I enjoy making it, too.

Making coffee is one of the first things that I do when I wake up. so, allow me to introduce you to “How to Make Coffee in a Coffee Maker-So Easy, So Good”.


The Coffee Maker

I have a Mr. Coffee coffee maker. I have been using this particular model for a little over a year. It is a Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker.

Features include:

  • Lift & clean filter basket
  • Water window
  • 2-Hour auto shut-off
  • Cleaning cycle
  • Delay brew
  • Freshness timer
  • Strong brew selector
  • Grab-A-Cup auto Pause
  • Reusable filter
  • Water filtration

I have used other Mr. Coffee makers in the past and they have done justice each and every time. If you are careful and conduct proper maintenance on your machines, they actually last a long time. The only reason I have ever replaced my previous coffee makers was simply just to upgrade. Whenever purchasing a coffee maker, it is always wise to read through the manual to become acquainted with your machine and to learn how to care and maintain it for a longer lifespan.

If you do not have a Mr. Coffee coffee maker, that’s fine. Any automatic drip coffee maker will work.


What’s Needed

This is what’s needed to make a great cup of coffee at home.

What to Do

Preparations….


1) Pour in desired amount of water into your coffee maker. Some people will pour and measure their water in the carafe but I will just pour directly into the coffee maker since there are measurements on the side anyway.

TIP: Keep in mind that the amount of brewed coffee is a little less than the amount of water measured. When making 2-16 oz cups, I will fill the coffee maker to just a little over the 6 cup line.


 

2) Place coffee filter into filter basket.

TIPS: Trim the coffee filter using a pair scissors when needed. Regular sized coffee filters are too big for the filter basket that I have. IF you don’t get a chance to replace your filter basket, just place the regular sized coffee filter into the coffee basket. 


 

3) Add your favorite ground coffee into the coffee filter.

TIP: Follow the measurement given on your ground coffee packaging then adjust according to your preferred strength. We like strong coffee. So when making 2-16 oz cups, I will use 3 heaping tablespoons of ground coffee.



 

4) If your coffee machine has an extra filtering system, place the extra filter on top of the filter basket now.

TIP: If you run out of filters for this system, it’s OK to do without it.


5) Closeup the coffee maker.   

6) Press the power button to turn on. (There is also a “strong brew” and “fresh brew timer” which I also switch on)

 

TIP: If you are really pressed for time in the morning, use the timer feature. It’s quite easy to set up.

Traveling is one of the most fulfilling experiences for anyone to have. It is the most amazing way to connect with the rest of the world. There are so many spectacular things to see and learn through travels. It doesn’t matter what type of travel either. Just traveling to any neighboring city, state or country can awaken so much within a person. It’s exhilarating!

So, why is it that many people rarely travel? One major reason is that people think that traveling costs a lot. I’m not going to sugar coat anything because traveling can be expensive. BUT I am also here to help and guide you and show you How to Plan a Trip on a Budget – You Can Do It.

Mindset

First and foremost, get yourself into the right mindset. You want to travel, so, you have to put yourself into traveler mode. Believe that you can do it. You deserve this! Put aside any doubts and just go for it!

Budget and Itinerary

Whatever your budget is stick with it. If it’s a minimal amount, it’s fine. The value of the trip is what you make of it and the memories you make on the trip are worth every dollar.

Now that your budget is set, time to plan your itinerary. Search for a destination nearby that won’t cost as much as the ultimate dream vacation you’ve been longing for. BUT look at this budgeted trip as a stepping stone to that dream vacation. Perhaps instead of going by air you can go by train or bus or better yet, go on a road trip. There’s no rule that states that you have to take a trip on a plane.

Food

Oh food, food, food…we need it for nourishment but do we need excess amounts of it while we are on a trip? Yes, I know it’s debatable but when you are planning a trip on a budget you might be able to bypass 3 full square meals a day and do just one complete meal and two snacks instead.

Now if you cannot resist breakfast, lunch and dinner, there used to be a TV show where the host would go to a certain place and spend something like $40 per day for 3 meals and a snack. Perhaps you can simulate doing the same thing but according to your food budget. So, instead of $40 per day you can perhaps can cut it down to $20 per day.

Breakfasts can be light and yet nutritious. Some cereal and fruit or a croissant with your breakfast beverage should suffice for most of the day. A light snack in the afternoon like a sandwich could hold you until dinner. Then at dinner, eat a hearty meal as a reward for all the adventuring you did during the day.

Another recommendation is to cook your own meals and that will save a lot and expand your budget a little more!

Lodging

The best way to save on lodging during your trip is to stay with some friends or relatives. People tend to think that doing this is burdensome to friends and relatives but really that is just a thought that we have in our minds. If you’re only there for a few days and don’t over welcome your stay, people really won’t mind having you over.

Another way to save on lodging is to become a house sitter. Many people who go on vacation look for house sitters to tend to their homes while they are away. As a house sitter you are able to secure a place to stay sometimes for free in exchange for caring for the home while the owners are away.

If you are a single traveler, you might want to check out some hostels in the area. A hostel is “an establishment which provides inexpensive food and lodging for a specific group of people, such as students, workers, or travelers”.

Or instead of renting out four-star hotels and if you are an adventurous traveler you can stay in a decent motel. After all, you will only need a place to shower and sleep and there are some motels out there that are adequate for that purpose.

Lastly, you can search for Airbnbs. People who travel in large groups could benefit from Airbnbs. You can rent out a large home, for example, for the duration of your trip and split the rental cost by the number of people who will be staying there. This will probably cheaper than renting hotel rooms per day.

Souvenirs and Gifts

Sure it is always nice to get some souvenirs and gifts for yourself or people back home to memorialize your trip, but you can also do without them. Take lots of pictures and videos instead! They’re worth more than that t-shirt or key chain.

As you can see, even on a small budget you can go on a vacation. As the saying goes, “if there’s a will, there’s a way”. One night as I was scrolling along social media, I happened to come across a random posting about an online travel business. I really am not exactly sure what happened next, but as I was looking more into the online travel business, I found a link posted by Eddy Solomon from Wealthy Affiliate and I clicked on it. I had no idea what Wealthy Affiliate was.

It Found Me

As I read more about Wealthy Affiliate or WA as it’s known to members, I learned that it was about starting an online business by creating your own website and using affiliate marketing to make money. I thought to myself,

“Wow this is what I’ve been trying to do with the website that I currently have!”

It found me!
