Change in Travel Plans (COVID19)- 5 Things You CAN Do in the Meantime

Travel, as we know it, is changing because of COVID19. This is an unprecedented time for the travel industry with almost all travel destinations adhering to travel alerts or travel bans. Many have had to reevaluate and reorganize travel plans for the year and, as of this post, it is only the first quarter of 2020!. This is true for all world travelers whether they be traveling for business or pleasure. Because of COVID19, travel has been almost at a halt as everywhere around the world is under “stay home” orders, in “social distancing”, “isolation” or “quarantine”.

So, what can we do in the meantime while we are all in the luxury of our homes and in the midst of the much-needed family time with the ones we love? As far as travel is concerned, all is not lost! We just have to change our mindset and find ways to use this time that many of us think we don’t have in the hustle and bustle of our normal every day lives. I still believe that this will all pass soon enough and the travel industry will be better and improved, but for now read on about Change in Travel Plans (COVID 19)- 5 Things You CAN Do in the Meantime.

1. Make a Travel Wish List

With so much unusual time on our hands, have yourself some fun and make a TRAVEL WISH LIST. This is definitely one way to get our minds off the stress and anxiety we are all facing with at the moment. It’s a “wish list” so dream away and list down all the places you have ever wondered about that seem so interesting to you. Don’t hold back! Take your time and keep adding to your list.

2. Take Virtual Tours

After you are satisfied with your Travel Wish List, each day take at least one virtual tour of a place on your list. For instance, if Rome is on your list and you would like to check out the museums at the Vatican, you can actually google it. I did and found this link:

https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2020/mar/23/10-of-the-worlds-best-virtual-museum-and-art-gallery-tours

You can also go on YouTube and check out what’s there.

3. Find Recipes and Try ‘Em Out

One of the best things about traveling around the world is that you get to experience the cuisine of the different countries that you visit. Well, for now you can go online to find recipes and try ’em out! You don’t have to be a chef in the kitchen because that’s the fun part, and what can make it even better is that you can involve other family members to help out. Choose a destination and then choose a recipe and cook away.

4. Start Shopping for the Little Things

When you have finally submerged yourself in your little “Travel Wish List” activities, you can start shopping for the little things online. Perhaps you or a companion need some new carry on bags? Or maybe you have always wanted to invest in a luggage scale? Now, can be the best time to do so. Here are some other travel goodies that you can start shopping for: travel pillows, airplane tray covers, travel cubes, compression socks, travel tags, travel disinfectant or just anything travel-related.

You can find a variety of travel items online. Have fun!

5. Start an Online Business

While you are not clocking in and clocking out, one thing you can look into is starting an online business. My recommendation is affiliate marketing specifically Wealthy Affiliate. You are reading this because I have created my online business and I am completely enjoying it. And now, that I have more time on my hands because of “stay home” orders, I have more time to invest in it. The best thing is that anyone can do it! Let’s be clear though…IT IS DEFINTELY NOT A “GET RICH QUICK” SCHEME. You will have to put in some work, dedication and commitment just like any other job but you can do it from anywhere. PLUS, you can start it for free…then when you want to invest more into your business you have that option.

Sounds great, huh? Are you interested? YOU will be great at it!

Stay Home

STAY HOME!!!

As I have said before, …this will pass. Let’s enjoy the time that we have right here and now before it all goes away and we are sucked back into the normalcy of the busyness of life.

It might not be the most ideal time for traveling and many of us have to deal with our changes in travel plans but let’s make the most of it. These are just a few ways to deal with Change in Travel Plans (COVID 19)- 5 Things You CAN Do in the Meantime. I would so love to hear all your personal stories about how you are spending your time at home. Please leave them in the comments.

  1. I think I heard that Broadway theatres are offering shows online for free. Also museums and galleries in New York are offering free online tours. Thanks for the inspiring suggestions. Some good ideas here. I have certainly found myself thinking about fabulous trips we have taken over the years and revisiting ideas about where we would still like to go. India is on my list also Machu Picchu but I suppose now is an opportunity to take those tours virtually. Stay safe and lets dream of safer times for us all.

    1. You are very welcome and thank you for sharing the info about the free online Broadway shows and NY museums and galleries.

Enjoy your virtual tours and in no time they can all become realistic ones. Anything to take our minds off of the uncertainties of today.

Be happy, healthy and safe wherever you are.

  2. What an amazing idea! Travel the world from home! I absolutely love the wishlist, virtual tours, and recipe finding. You can get the most authentic at-home vacation!

Who doesn’t love a little shopping?!?! I know I do!

I absolutely love Wealthy Affiliate! With the training and community, you are set up for success! Make sure to take Geri’s recommendation on #5, I have and I absolutely love it! It’s free to start – you have nothing to lose, but a lot to gain!

    1. I’m so glad you enjoyed this post! I so appreciate your spirit and enthusiasm.

Even in these trying times, it is definitely one way to travel without physically traveling. Then, when it is time to actually travel you are all set to do so.

There may be people out there looking for some creative ways to spend their time and starting an online business could be what they are looking for.

  3. These days, traveling is banned in a lot of countries. For travelers, it is a huge inconvenience. But the people who are involved in the travel industry should be hit even harder. I hope the vaccine of the COVID-19 virus can be found soon, and the travel industry gets quickly boomed.

I was interested in reading your list of five things during the COVID19 pandemic. The list of 1 through 4 is a kind of pre-preparation. Whenever I traveled to a new place, the preparation was quite fun. These activities you mentioned can be fun.

I smiled at the 5th item. Initiating an on-line business is a great idea. As a member of WA community myself, I agree with your introduction of the on-line business and Wealthy Affiliate. As you explained, WA does not teach a get-rich-quick scheme. It is a new type of work, and I believe that hard work is essential for success.

I am currently living in South Korea. There is no ban on going outside here, and I can walk outside at my disposal. This afternoon, I passed by a big restaurant while walking. There were more than 20 tables, but I could see no customer. A lot of business in almost all the industry got hit hard. Especially these days, I agree that on-line business is a good alternative, and WA will be an awesome place to learn about it.

I also highly recommend joining Wealthy Affiliate. I believe it requires hard-working, but the outcome can be rewarding. Thank you for introducing the list.

  4. What a great idea this is. With everything that’s going on right now many people who travel a lot are stuck at home and this site gives them many interesting things they can do to overcome that. I especially like the Virtual Tour idea, I never thought about that one. Great job with this.

  5. Hi Geri. What a great list of fun things to do. I have never thought of actually doing a virtual tour. That caught my eye. I believe that sometimes it just takes a little imagination to come up with some great things to do such as reading travel books and following the adventures of others,

  6. I can tell that this is a really good one. I should first commend the input of effort in making this superb website with nice features and also writing an article on what to do in these period with the travel bans. i have more time with my family now and i now show my son who is the boss of video games.

  7. I would love to create a website like yours as the template used is really nice, simple and brings about clarity of the write ups, but then you wrote a brilliant article on some things that we can engage in during this period of covid 19 crises. i would usually prefer to work on my music studio. it takes enough time already.
